Gatineau, February 15, 2017 – The Grand Prix Cycliste Gatineau today announced the programming of its 8th edition, including a new event, the Navy Bike Ride, a family cycling event presented in partnership with the Royal Canadian Navy.
The Navy Bike Ride will take place on Saturday, May 20. Participants can choose either a 10K or a 30K route. This non-competitive event is open to everyone, and will take riders past Parliament Hill and through the streets of downtown Gatineau. In the words of Vice-Admiral Ron Lloyd, Commander of the Royal Canadian Navy, “The Navy Bike Ride is a great way to encourage physical activity, celebrate Canada’s sesquicentennial, and promote the Royal Canadian Navy in the National Capital Region, not to mention help out our naval families in need.”
No change to the usual races
Besides the Navy Bike Ride, the Grand Prix Cycliste will feature the usual races. In terms of races reserved for international elite women cyclists, the Chrono Gatineau, an individual time trial, will be held May 19, and the road race will be held May 20 in the afternoon. The Gran Fondo, Medio Fondo, and Coupe Québec Cuisses Or de l’Outaouais will be held Sunday, May 21 and Monday, May 22.
